Anti-discrimination bureau in Kalmar was founded in the Spring of 2005.
We are a politically and religiously independent non-profit organization where both organizations and individuals can become members.

Our activity consists of two chief tasks. The first is to give advice, support and help to people who feel discriminated. All our personal guidance is free of charge.

We also have as task to be a driving force of public opinion, to spread information and call the attention to different types of discrimination. We organisate courses, seminars and conferences, aiming to prevent and counteract discrimination, and we offer to state and private employers knowledge development through courses and lectures concerning laws against discrimination.

Do you experience a situation where you have been bad treated due to your gender, ethnicity, your religion, your function disability or your sexual orientation?
Discrimination is when a person is treated in a worse way than somebody else and the unfair treatment has connection with one of the discrimination grounds.

What is a discrimination ground?

A ground of discrimination is a part of yourself which is protected by the swedish laws against discrimination. It means that it is forbidden, according to the law, to treat someone in a worse way than somebody else due to one of the grounds of discrimination.
The laws make clear in which situations discrimination is forbidden

Ethniticity
Ethnic affiliation is when a person belongs to a group of people with same skin colour or same national/ethnical origin.

Funcional
It’s a physical, intellectual, psychic limitation of functional capacity of a person.
The limitation can be result of a damage or a disease which came since the moment of birth or later on or can be expected to come. One exemple of function disability which is expected to come are the effects of diseases such as HIV and Multiple Sclerosis.

Gender
Biological gender and transsexuals

Religion or another belief
Belief concepts mean other different religious concepts which have principles that are comparable to religion, e.g. buddhism and atheism. Ethical, philosophical and political points of view are not protected by the law.

Sexual Orientation
Bisexuals, heterosexuals, homosexuals, i.e., if you fall in love with someone of both genders, of opposite gender, or of same gender as yours.

Why should you report discrimination?

You protect your human right not to be discriminated and can obtain redress for the right violation you suffered.
You become a important driving force in the “work of change” against discrimination.
It is free of cost. The anti-discrimination bureau in Kalmar doesn’t charge anything for the guidance and it can help you with your case.
